I originally took Shotokan karate along with my children to be an example that if mom could do it, then so could they. I wanted to give my son some guidance when defending himself, his sister, or me and to help give him clarity of good morals. My son developed those skills plus learned to have patience, speak up for himself and become more mindful of things around him. He has made it through some tough times because of his many sessions with Sensei Deddy. My son still recalls what he has learned.
I joined because of my kids but ended up learning some great things as well. My focus became more prominent, confidence was increased, and I learned how strong I was as a single mom. I worked towards my degree with determination and planned for a brighter future for my kids and myself. So Sensei Deddy thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing us the potential we had hidden, bringing it out in us with all of your geniuine good spirit. Much love and appreciation. ~ Pam and the kids

Sensei Deddy Mansyur is a true teacher and is amongst the great karatekas of Karate-Do. When meeting Sensei Deddy, it is apparent that his passion and his life are for, and through karate. For me this dedication to live and breath karate continues to inspire me to overcome any physical or mental barriers impeding my growth in karate. He pushes our limits both mentally and physically to achieve excellence. ~ Heath

I will always be grateful to Sensei Deddy for the teachings. It is a real source of inspiration. Sensei Deddy showed me that karate is the best way of life, and this I pass on to my children. I have no doubt, I will practice karate for 100 years! Oss Sensei! ~ Tânio

My karate journey started in 1994 back in Africa where I was born and raised. When I first moved here In houston, it was been quite a challenge for me to find a dojo where they practice a real traditional karate I am used to, till I meet Sensei Deddy. He helped me sharpen my karate skills which in turn allowed me to win numbers of medals in various tournaments. Thank you Sensei Deddy. ~ Moussa

Sensei Deddy came into my life when I was about 10. I was living at a shelter with my mom at the time, and Sensei would visit the Star of Hope shelter from the University of Houston and volunteer his time to teach us kids Shotokan! If it weren't for the interest and dedication as well as compassion and understanding of what kids like me needed given our living situation and home life, I might not be the person I am today! He helped me replace anger with empathy, sadness with joy, and confusion with peace in my heart! I was able to build confidence and self-esteem and most of all, I learned what family was! Sensei Deddy has been a huge part of my life for over 24 years now and still to this day, inspires me to not only be a better person, but to remain compassionate towards others and give back to my community and help other children like me! He is truly a beautiful soul and his programs and the time he spends with all of his students in martial arts, continue to this day, enhancing and enriching the daily lives of everyone around him! If you are serious about learning martial arts, he is the man to learn from! I wouldn't have it any other way! He still teaches me and now he teaches my children! We wouldn't have it any other way! ~ Melissa

Sensei Deddy is not only a teacher, he is a good man with great heart. I would say I "trained" in karate in my country, but Sensei Deddy "educated" me about karate here. Even though my karate background is from the style of Shito Ryu in Nepal, I was able to receive a great chance to learn Shotokan from Sensei Deddy. Shotokan and Shito ryu are two different styles of karate, which has various style of stances and techniques. Therefore, I had some difficulties in the beginning when I started Shotokan karate. But his teaching style allowed me to learn those stances and techniques. In addition to this, his traditional teaching style of karate made me improve my hands and legs power and help me to develop proper stances. He is a true spirit of karateka, who not only teaches karate, but is also a great inspiration for life. I always respect him. Oss!
