When Entering the Dojo

  • Bow
  • Bow to the sensei
  • Bow to the black belt members

When You Are Late

  • Join the class and take your position according to your rank

When Leaving During Class

  • If you know you will be gone, obtain Sensei’s permission before the class starts
  • If you must stop suddenly, bow to Sensei and wait for acknowledgement when you stop, and bow again when leaving and re-entering the dojo

Dress Regulations

  • A plain white regulation karate-gi is to be worn while training
  • An SKIF badge or Kancho’s special calligraphy may be worn on the left side of the chest
  • Sleeves and pants must be long enough to cover the elbows and knees
  • The obi (belt) should be tied low around the hips in a square knot
  • The label end of the belt should be on the right side, facing forward, after the belt has been tied.  Both ends should be pointing out and down at 45 degrees.

Attendance

It is very important that all karate students avoid missing or skipping any classes.  Since the belt test takes place every four months, the total number of classes that students need to attend is 32, based on twice-a-week training in the dojo. Students cannot miss more than five classes in order to be qualified for the belt test.

If, under difficult situations, students are missing more than five classes, they must explain in writing the reason of absence.  The teaching staff will decide whether a student is qualified to take a test.

Seminar and Competition

All students are encouraged to attend and participate in seminars and competitions of any traditional karate style at least three times each year.  By doing so, students will gain more experience and knowledge in hands-on situations.

Our teaching staff will assist any students who want to attend and participate in karate activities organized not only by our affiliated dojos but also by other karate organizations.

Karate seminar and competition experiences can give students more confidence in achieving their karate goals by showing them what their strengths and weaknesses are outside of routine practice and by exposing them to new situations.
